Lady Rebels Vex Vikings with 4-0 Shutout Victory on “Senior Night”

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels softball team hosted the Vikings of East Hall for the annual “Senior Night” game, winning 4-0. The five seniors: Missy Dixon: Candace German; Lauren Hensley; Emily Morganson; and Karly Thompson were honored post game.The game began as a defensive struggle as neither team was able to muster a run until the bottom of the third inning. With the bases loaded, Karly Thompson hit into a fielder’s choice at second; however, Josie Millsaps was able to score the first run of the game.

The East Hall assistant coach, was visibly upset about a perceived interference, and spoke to the umpire for quite a few minutes, which lead some Fannin fans to admonish the umpire for the game delay.

“That’s long enough blue,”

was heard several times.

Lauren Hensley scored immediately afterwards on a double steal that put the Lady Rebels up 2-0 and saw second occupied by Thompson. Mallory Deal’s RBI double to right field scored Thompson. A Fannin fly out ended the inning, with the Lady Rebels up 3-0.

The last run of the night came in the next inning. Missy Dixon walked with bases loaded for a 4-0 Fannin lead. The Lady Rebels were unable to capitalize further due to three straight Fannin fly outs.

The top of the sixth saw figurative fireworks in Fannin, as the same assistant coach that caused a delay earlier in the game, was first restricted to the dug out, and then eventually thrown out of the game for arguing a foul/fair ball call. The call was foul, she evidently disagreed.

The Lady Rebels next traveled to White County, winning with another shut out, 9-0. Fannin scored three runs in the third, and six in the fourth, leading to a five inning mercy rule win.
