Mr. Reed, better known in the community as “Monk”, Nicholson, age 80, of Turtletown, TN passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012.“Monk” was a well known and respected business man in Turtletown, owning and operating along with his wife Betty, Nicholson’s Hardware and Grocery for 39 years. He was a Korean Combat Veteran having served as a Staff SGT in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by parents, Ray and Lana Payne Nicholson along with siblings, Ray Nicholson, Jr and Willard Nicholson.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 61 years, Betty Powell Nicholson of the home; children, Karla Nicholson of Frankfort, KY, Rick (Betty Ann) Nicholson of Turtletown, TN, Joyce (Gary) Kidd of Stafford, VA; sisters, Jo Ann Harper of Copperhill, TN, Barbara Pittman of Turtletown, TN; grandchildren, Alicia (Daven) Dilbeck of McCaysville, GA, Jared (Kate) Kidd of Scottsville, VA, Kristy (Brandon) Shields of Knoxville, TN; great grandchild Halle Dilbeck of McCaysville, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. from the Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Harper and Rev. Terry Gladson officiating. Pallbeares include Ken Wooten, Mike Dale, Doug Miner, Jerry Reischer, Tex Bledsoe and Toby Hill. Many long time customers and community friends will serve as an honorary escort. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Nicholson may be made to the American Cancer Society.
