Norma Bean Directs “The Fox on the Fairway” at Blue Ridge Community Theater

Community

Your Blue Ridge Community Theater brings you a play by the Broadway Playwright, Ken Ludwig. Ludwig’s plays have delighted our audiences in our past productions of Lend Me a Tenor, Postmortem, and Moon Over Buffalo. Our current production of The Fox On The Fairway is a farce, focused around the rivalry of two country clubs, that is sure to have your laughing the entire night!
Directing our production is a familiar face around the theater and Blairsville community, Norma Bean. Born in Maryland, Norma lived in Indiana for a time and was educated and worked in the field of business administration. She moved to North Georgia in 2003, currently residing in McCaysville, and works at the Sawmill Restaurant in Blairsville.

Norma has been involved with theater since the age of 5 and when she came to Georgia, she actively sought out a community theater to be involved in. She has acted in the BRCT productions of Nunsense and Nunsensations, Run For Your Wife and its sequel Caught In The Net, and most recently in Sylvia. She has also directed productions of Postmortem and Harvey.

In doing The Fox On The Fairway, Norma talks about enjoying the challenges it presents. While there is no mistaken identities like many farces have, the play does use lots of doors and quick in and out movements among the actors. This presents the issue of keeping the action moving while still delivering well timed lines that the audience can hear and understand. Mixing the comedy of the lines and the actions is an essential part to the presentation.

When asked whether she prefers directing or acting, Norma says she prefers to direct. Her favorite production was one she did of You Can’t Take It With You. She compares the act of directing to being,

“… like an artist, except I get to create through movement and blocking.”

The Fox on the Fairway starts on August 16th, running every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday’s at 2:00 PM through September 2nd. Tickets are available through our box office at:
