Rev. Earl Hughes : Obituary

Preacher Earl Parker Hughes, age 84 of McCaysville, passed away August 2, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Copper Basin. Rev. Hughes was born August 9, 1927 in Mascot, TN to the late Homer Hughes and the late Leona Davis Hughes. Not only was Earl a jack of all trades, but he was employed by God as an evangelist for over 60 years, serving many different churches all over the United States. Preacher Earl loved the Lord and spread the gospel everywhere he went. In fact, his Geo Metro had 650,000 miles on it. He had a stroke and spent days in the hospital in Kentucky. He had so many calls to check on him, the hospital thought that they had a celebrity. Many people knew him and loved him, he will be missed by all. A member at the Midway Baptist Church in McCaysville, he was preceded in death by sister, Pearl Hughes, brother, Joe Hughes, brother, Clarence Hughes, sister, Ruth Carter and son-in-law, Ted Ledford.

Survivors include: wife, Katherine Walden Hughes; daughter, Wanda Russell & Fiancé Rev. James Jenkins; daughter, Joyce & Fred Bandy; brother, Jack & Velma Hughes of Chattanooga; sister, Grace Henderson of Chattsworth; brother, Homer Jr. & Juanita Hughes of Woodstock; Glenn Hughes of McCaysville; sister, Evelyn Quinn of McCaysville, brother-in-law, Lane & Nellie Walden; four grandchildren, Lynn & Kelly Bandy, Shane Bandy, Robin & Wesley Davenport, and Buffy & Fritz Baugh; eight great-grandchildren, Justin & Jennifer Davenport, Julia & Justin Monteith, Johnathan & Amanda Berrier, Hannah Baugh, Micah Baugh, Natalie Bandy, Madeline Bandy and Patrick Bandy and two great-great grandchildren, Haley & Ruthie Davenport.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home with the Reverends Bill Hanks & Jerry Rice officiating. Music provided by James Jenkins, Jimmy Helton, Rose Jones & Homer Johnson. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Davenport officiating. The gentlemen serving as Pallbearers include, Lynn Bandy, Shane Bandy, Justin Davenport, Johnathan Berrier, Wesley Davenport, and Fritz Baugh. Honorary pallbearers include, Patrick Bandy, Micah Baugh, Don Carter, William Carter, Ricky Carter, Scott Henderson, Marvin Henderson, Schronce Quinn, Van Quinn, Mike Hughes, Stephen Hughes, Bo Hughes, Steve Hughes Joe Hughes and Dr. Allen Uhlik.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 pm, Saturday, August 4, 2012. In addition to sending flowers, you may also make donations to the Midway Baptist Church in McCaysville.
