Mr. Robert “Bob” Phillip Schwab, age 91 of Blue Ridge, passed away July 29, 2012 at Fannin Regional. Born February 20, 1921 in Litchfield, IL. to the late Phillip & Ruth Wilson Schwab. Bob was a U.S. Army Veteran who served as a T/SGT in the medical corp., serving in the European Theater, Germany & France. He lived on the hospital train # 21 throughout most of his time in service. Bob graduated in 1938 and attended Dale Carnegie Business School.

Bob enjoyed 57 yrs. of radio broadcasting. From his start with WGGA in Gainseville where he began as a copy writer for advertisements and worked his way up to station manager to later becoming owner and operator of 4 radio stations; WLSB in Copperhill, TN, WPPL-FM in Blue Ridge, WLEJ in Ellijay, & WYY2 in Jasper with translator stations in Blairsville and E. Ellijay. During his tenure in broadcasting Bob had interviewed presidents Nixon, Ford, & Carter, numerous Senators, and many recording artists, some which he came to know personally. He was awarded station of the year for his programs many times.But his pride and joy of them all was the Gabby Award. He was awarded this prestigious number one award in 2000 for being the top individual in over 400 radio & TV stations in the State of Georgia for their excellence in broadcasting. Bob retired from the radio in 2003 but you could still hear his familiar kind voice over the phone by contacting the Cochran Funeral Home 24 hour obituary phone line where he would announce all of the upcoming services.

He was a member of the GAB-TAB & NAB, the GA. Association of Broadcasters, the TN. Association of Broadcasters & the National Association of Broadcasters for many years. He was a faithful member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for 27 years, where he loved to sing in the choir, shake hands and share a kind word with his many friends. Bob loved people and loved helping them and felt this was his way of serving the Lord. His motto was “Lord, please let me help someone today.” and for many he did just that. Bob left a beautiful footprint in the heart of many and he will be greatly missed.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Juanita M. Schwab, step-son, Timothy McGill (Wanda), step-daughter Anita Lynn Cole (Lynn), grandson, Robert Phillip Schwab III, step-grandson, Bryan McGill, step-grandson, Brent Cole, step-granddaughter, Jennifer Jones, step-granddaughter, Melissa Foster, 8 great grandchildren: Jase Foster, Cason McGill, Bentley Cole, Kaylee Foster, Abby McGill, Albany Cole, Lynlee Foster, & Nicholas Jones, sister, Catherine Flynn, sister, Mary Flynn, brother, Brendan Flynn (Jane), brother, Edward Flynn (Judith), brother, Daniel Flynn (Luisa), many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by: 1st wife, Ethel Inez Schwab, son, Robert Phillip Schwab II, brother, Riley Schwab, brother, Stephen Schwab, step-father, George W. Flynn, half-brothers; George Flynn, Gerald Flynn, & William Flynn.

Funeral services for Bob will be held on Wednesday, August 1st, 2012 at 11:00am in the Henry Cochran Funeral Chapel with Rev. Harold Willis officiating and Eulogy by Phillip Hudgens. Military honors will be by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Music will be by Bobby Chastain. Interment will follow at 3:00 in Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, GA.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Henry Cochran Funeral Home from 4:00-9:00pm.

Flowers are being accepted by family as well as donations in memory of Bob to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Building Fund or the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home.
