Nerd Night Recommences for MIB 3

Community, Opinion

Nerd night was not missed last week with the opening of “Battleship.” There was a meeting and the “nerdcensus” was that “Battleship” wasn’t worth the money, especially since most of us have seen “The Avengers” at least twice. However, Nerd Night recommenced with Men in Black 3, despite the normal nerd headquarters being busy with a two backed beast battle of Shakespearean proportions. To paraphrase the great Neil Armstrong, “one small conquest for a nerd, is a giant conquest for nerdkind.” Nerds need love too. Lewis and Betty Childs changed how I viewed the “Moon Bounce” and Darth Vader costumes forever!

Neil Armstrong makes great segue to a review of MIB 3, seeing is how the main bad guy escapes from a prison on the moon. No spoiler alert, that incident happens before the opening credits and it’s pretty obvious from the first scene that’s going to happen. Side note, my first thought of the movie was, “Lucky Boris,” you’ll know when you see it.

So an awful creature, who’s missing an arm thanks to Agent K, (Tommy Lee Jones/Josh Brolin), who of course kills some people (or I think in this case aliens, but you get the point) immediately after breaking out of the aforementioned moon prison, gets his hands on a time travel device and SPOILER ALERT, kills K in the past.

As I always, I’m not going to be that guy that tells the whole movie, all this you can gather from the commercial; however, I do have to give some brief plot points.

Agent J (Will “Hershey Slap” Smith) is the only one that remembers him, seeing as K’s been “dead” 40 years, and of course J has to jump back in time to save is partner.

Now normally I don’t give that much plot, I like to just review, but this movie requires you to know what’s going on before I can actually give a good review. It’s “OKAAAY!!!” As in, Little John/Dave Chappelle, ok, plus that’s an inside MIB 3 reference that you’ll get when you see it.

It’s very funny and extremely well done. I liked both the first movies and this one I think surpassed both, but I admit the 3-D makes me nonobjective.

Will Smith is HIGHLARIOUS, as always, as Agent J. Josh Brolin does an amazing job of playing a younger more vivacious K; as in he actually smiles, jokes, and shows emotion (see “OKAAAAY” reference).

Of course Agent J spends the entire movie trying to figure out what turned Josh Brolin’s K into Tommy Lee Jones’ K, only to be constantly told,

“Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answers to.”

SPOILER ALERT, of course he gets his answer, in a surprising ending, that I can honestly say, I did not see coming, despite the obvious foreshadowing.

The movie is visually awesome, as they all have been. Any fans of the series will love how the aliens pop off the screen in 3-D and the subtle shots at some pop culture celebrities that most would not question the validity of their origin being interplanetary. Those who haven’t seen the first two will be able to enjoy it just as much because MIB 3 does a fantastic job of allowing it to stand on its own.

In honor of the nerd who couldn’t make the movie due to the previously mentioned two backed beast battle, who in the most (brothers before garden tools) fashion, made the most unnecessary apology call ever; ONE LAST SPOILER ALERT, strictly for the ladies.

ALL FASHION MODELS ARE ALIENS!!!!
