Fannin Falls at Lumpkin: Indians Scalp Rebels 6-3

The Fannin County High School Rebels baseball made the pilgrimage to Lumpkin County to take on the Indians. The Indians scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, and withstood a furious Fannin rally in the top of the seventh to secure a 6-3 win.The game began as a defensive struggle as neither team scored until the fourth inning, despite both teams placing numerous batters on base. Noah O’Neal’s RBI single scored Daniel Roper.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the following inning when the Indians scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game 1-1 heading into the sixth inning.

The sixth inning started auspiciously for the Fannin faithful, as Roper led of with a single, and Jordan Gray followed with a single as well. O’Neal’s sacrifice bunt put men on second and third.

Following a Fannin strike out, Todd Patterson walked to load the bases. However, a final Fannin strike out, proved fatal to the Fannin scoring threat in the inning.

They charged forward in the bottom of the sixth. When a walk loaded the bases, catcher Kolton Galloway, mistaking thought a steal attempt was occurring and made the throw the second. When the ball wasn’t caught and rolled into the outfield the Indians took the lead 2-1. Two RBI bunts sandwiched a base clearing triple leading to the Rebels to be down 6-1 heading into the seventh inning.

Andrew Hyatt led of in the top of the seventh with a single to center field, followed by a walk by Galloway which put men on first and second. Brett Davis’ sacrifice grounder moved both runners over one base. Roper followed with a base clearing double that put the Rebels within reach, 6-3. However, the visitors would score nor more securing the win for the home town Indians.
