The annual district spelling bee was held at the Fannin County Board of Education offices on January 24. Of the four participants, Will Shirah, from Fannin Middle School, triumphed as the winner and will now go on to the state spelling bee which will be held in Rome on February 25. The winner of the state competition will compete in the national spelling bee. Runner up was Will’s brother, Matthew Shirah from West Fannin Elementary. Other participants were Grant Shepherd from East Fannin Elementary and Tanner Carrier from Blue Ridge Elementary.
Prizes were awarded to all participants. The winner took home $100, the runner up claimed a prize of $50, and the other participants were awarded $50 each.
