The Fannin Lady Rebels traveled to Pickens High School on Friday to take on a Dragonettes squad in a game that quickly proved to be an instant classic, as Fannin fell to Pickens 45-38.The scoring was even throughout the first half of play, but a shot right before the buzzer by Pickens left Fannin down 27-26. An intense third quarter left the Lady Rebels within striking distance of the Dragonettes, down a single point heading into the crucial fourth quarter.
An impressive steal by senior Bethany Taylor with just under three minutes left gave Fannin a chance to narrow the gap, but a great stop on defense by Pickens left the Lady Rebels searching for the ingredients necessary for a quick comeback.
Unfortunately for Fannin, the team just couldn’t stop the Dragonettes late, leading to a tough 45-38 loss.
Freshman Molly Chandler led the Lady Rebels in scoring with eight points. Sophomore Hope Cochran and senior Ashley Ellison led the team in rebounds with six each. Three Fannin players—Ashley Ellison, Hope Cochran, and junior Morgan Chastain—were in the giving mood this holiday season, each recording three assists for their team.
The Lady Rebels along with the Rebels will face off with Cass on Thursday in Fannin.
