Joshua Snider, son of Gilmer High School legend Sam Snider, is the new steward of the Fannin County High School wrestling program. FYN recently sat down with the younger Snider to discuss the Rebels’ wrestling outlook.Snider has a steady plan for improving the program and getting the team to a championship level program; however, he tempers his expectations with patience.
“Our biggest goal this year is to have a good competitive squad,” Snider said.
Coach Snider took a great deal of lessons from his accomplished father, and plans to use those lessons to help his wrestlers both on and off the mat. His vision for the program is to improve at a steady pace.
“Having a great dad, and a great coach who taught me everything he’s learned is great for the sport of wrestling. (I’m) going to bring that over here. Not only just the technique, but the moral character and the things he’s taught me.”
Snider plans to employ the same system that will be used in the high school with the middle school program, in order to provide continuity and familiarity throughout the Fannin County School system wrestling programs.
Snider spoke of the pressure that comes with being a new head coach.
“I definitely don’t feel any negative pressure. I feel a lot of positive pressure, just to be here and to be successful, and I don’t think that our administration is looking for a 15-0 record. What they’re looking for, is these young men to learn the technique and over time teaching them good morals and good ethics, and good competitive spirit.”
Coach Joshua Snider leads the Rebels in his first ever home duals meet with Gainesville, Buford, and Murphy, Tuesday November 29th at 5:30pm.
