The Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge announces the death of Mr. Franklin Delano Godfrey, age 74, of McCaysville, GA, who passed away Friday, August 12, 2011, at his home.He was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County, son of the late Thomas Morgan Godfrey and Florence Mae Green Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company, having worked as a boilermaker and was chief planner in the maintenance department. He was a member of the Epworth First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by 8 siblings: Rene, Edward (Bud), and Robert Godfrey, Bonnie Queen, Edna (Sis) Holmes, Mary Lou Burnette, Helen Joslin and Eva Godfrey.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Brown Godfrey of the home, two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and Don Clement of McCaysville, and Cherie and Mike Kephart of Blue Ridge, GA; one brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Betty Godfrey of McCaysville, GA; two brothers-in-law Milton Holmes of Marietta, GA and Dan Joslin of Clarkesville, GA; two sisters-in-law, Wilma Godfrey of McCaysville, and Martha Godfrey of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren, Leia and Landon Clement and Morgan and Avery Kephart, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, August 14, at 2:00 PM from the Akins Chapel with Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music will be by Rev. Doug Simonds and Vernon Owenby. Interment will be at Kingtown Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Ensley, Joe Boggs, Gary Kilpatrick, Bob Phillips, Edward Wilcox, Cleve Oliver and Jim Bennett, Sr. Memorial Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church at P.O. Box 187 Epworth, GA 30541.
