Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mr. Edward Lewis Turner, age 83, of Blairsville, who passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Turner was born in Pomfret, Vermont, on April 6, 1928, a son of the late Edward Lewis Turner and the late Laverne Mock Turner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served his country during World War II. He and his wife had been previous residents of Orlando, Florida, and he had retired from commercial tire sales. Edward Turner was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and never missed an opportunity to witness for the Lord. An enthusiastic ambassador for Christ, he had served for 20 years in prison ministry. Besides his parents, Ed had been preceded in death by a sister, Belva Ventura.

Ed will be missed by all who knew him, but especially by his loving family: his wife of 60 years, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. Turner, Jr., and his wife Vicki, of Richardson, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey Turner Nickolson and her husband Ron, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Scot C. Turner and his wife, Janine, of Tacoma, Washington; sister, Mildred Kathan, of North Syracuse, New York; six grandchildren: Ashley Turner, Lindsay Irving, Jennifer Turner, Jamie Nickolson, Amy Turner, and Brandon Turner. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services for Ed will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Special music will be presented by Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper, Jackie Hill, and Eric Purser.

Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011, with military honors conferred by U.S. Army.
