On Wednesday evening, June 15th, an hour after we had left Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cherry Log, a lighting bolt hit the ground over a buried telephone line and followed it into the building setting it on fire. There was a rapid response by fire departments from our local community including Ellijay, Blue Ridge, and even Jasper. Tanker trucks were used to bring water from local lakes to fight the blaze. We want to thank everyone involved including the local law enforcement officers.
Also, the response from the local churches has been marvelous. They have loaned us chairs, hymn books, Bibles, and many other things that a church needs to begin again. The Cherry Log Christian Church invited us to meet in their social hall for three weeks and arranged for us to use their former building during this time of reconstruction. Churches from Atlanta, Dalton, and Florida made donations. The Georgia Baptist Convention sent a gift of $3,000.
The Pink Pig restaurant donated food to feed the firemen. The Blue Ridge Mountain Moving & Packing donated their service to move a piano to our temporary site.
Many individuals have assured us of their prayerful support as we seek to follow our Lord’s guidance during this time.
All of this speaks so well of our community and the spirit of concern that makes this area an inviting place to live.
Blessings!
