The Akins Funeral of Copperhill announces the death of Joan Jones, age 68, of the Grassy Creek Community, Copperhill, TN who passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 in the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.Joan was born in Swedesboro, NJ to the late James and Mary Minnitti Monahon. She was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. She enjoyed as her hobbies playing bingo at the Blue Ridge Kiwanis Club fairgrounds each week and volunteering at the Riverside Food Ministry. Joan was the 47th student to attend Cleveland State Community College. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob Jones.

She is survived by her husband of forty nine years, Wayne Paul Jones, Sr., of the home; sons, Wayne Jones, Jr of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Andrew (Dana) Jones of the Grassy Creek Community, Copperhill, TN; brother, Anthony John Monahon of Mosely, VA; grandchildren, Celeste (Michael) Beach, Ansleigh Jones, Jerad Stiles, Jacob Stiles, Mikey Forbes and Oceana “Tootie” Forbes; four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 30th at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Roger Hyatt officiating. Music will be by Ann Prince and Amy Crawford. Pallbearers include: Tom Godfrey, Tony Abercrombie, Mark Raper, Ted Carlson, Ed McKnight, Wayne Keck, Chuck Foster, Steve Gaddis and David Asburn. Honorary Pallbearers include the members of the Blue Ridge Kiwanis Club, volunteers with the Riverside Food Ministry, Bryan Herndon, El Kahir Shrine, El Kahir Hospital Dads and the Central States Association of Shrine Motor Corps. Interment will follow in the Crestlawn cemetery.
