Rebels Region Reign Continues

The Fannin High School Rebels’ baseball team dominance of Region 8AA continued with a two game sweep of the Jefferson Dragons. The Rebels won the best of three series during a double header, posting wins of 11-4 and 17-14.The Rebels hosted the Dragons on Good Friday, although in game two the Dragons were technically the home team. The first game featured the Dragons scoring first, but Jefferson was quickly done in by an offensive explosion by the Rebels.

The second game featured a closely fought battle between two teams vying for state tournament seeding.
The “visiting” Rebels began the game off with a home run from Garrison Sisson and proceeded to score four more runs to take a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the first.
The Dragons began to get hot in the next two innings, scoring four runs. Fannin answered the call with an eight run fourth inning, including back to back home runs from Daniel Roper and James Bennett. The Dragons were unable to eat into the 13-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth, falling in three straight at bats.
The Rebels added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Korey Satterfield started the inning off with a lead off home run and Korey Satterfield stole home for the scores.

In an exclusive FYN post game interview, Coach David Dyer said, “We may have gotten complacent. I had to tell them (the Rebels) they practice every day just like we do.”
Neither team was able to score in the six; however, the Rebels increased the lead by two in the top of the seventh, and final, inning. The Dragons were able to get within three, but were unable to secure a full fledge comeback and force a deciding game three.
