The Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill announces the death of Jania “Jan” Lou Ellis, age 74, of Ducktown. TN, who passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011 in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.Jan was born on July 11, 1936 to the late James Leonard “Hen” and Edna Manaughta Duvall Ellis. She was a clerk with McCaysville Pharmacy in McCaysville, GA forty-eight years. Jan was of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Grady Frank Higdon.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Joey Buchanan of Isabella, TN; brother, Lynn Ellis of Copperhill, TN; sisters, Fayrene and husband, Bob Mathis of Epworth, GA, Shirley Jean Higdon of Dahlonega, GA and Marie and husband, Joe Hughes of Mineral Bluff, GA; two grandchildren, Ashley Buchanan and Joey Buchanan also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins Chapel with Rev. Claude Mathis and Rev. Don Padgett officiating. Pallbearers will be Bob Mathis, Joe Hughes, John Higdon, Tommy Keheley, Ricky Keheley and Donald Curtis. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert and Gwen Skelton, Dr. Kenny Atkins, Past and Present Employees of McCaysville Pharmacy. Interment will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12 noon on Tuesday, but especially from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill is in charge of the arrangements.
