Wes Durham Named Sportscaster of the Year

Wes Durham, Voice of the Yellow Jackets as well as the play-by-play voice for the Atlanta Falcons, was named Georgia’s Sportscaster of the Year, announced by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.Durham, in his 16th season of calling play-by-play for Georgia Tech football and men’s basketball, wins the honor for the seventh time and for the sixth time in the last nine years. Since 2004, Durham has also been the radio play-by-play voice of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

“I am always very flattered to receive this honor,” Durham said.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by your colleagues in this state.

The continued support that I receive from Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Falcons is incredible and I’m very grateful to represent two great organizations.”

Since 2003, Wes Durham has been Georgia’s Sportscaster of the Year six times. The only others to be honored in that span were Skip Caray, Larry Munson and Pete Van Weiren. The 2010 Georgia Sportswriter of the Year was Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The NSSA also announced ESPN’s Mike Tirico as the National Sportscaster of the Year and Sports Illustrated/SI.com’s Peter King as the National Sportswriter of the Year.

The awards ceremony is slated for May 14-16 in Salisbury, N.C.
