STAY HOME! Fannin County Road Conditions Report

Local Sheriff and County road department authorities are urging the same battle cry — “Stay home unless it’s an emergency.”
Treacherous road conditions Monday morning are only predicted to get worse as ice, sleet and freezing rain exasperate conditions.

Fetchyournews.com was on the scene in Fannin County at 8 a.m. reporting the Georgia Department of Transportation had plowed one lane in Fannin County with no signs of salting. Fannin County Road Department Shop Clerk Michael Collins reported five trucks and two motor graders out plowing and salting main thoroughfares in its jurisdiction including Scenic Drive, Sugar Creek, and Hwy 2.
Collins said there are 300 tons of salt on hand and that they don’t anticipate running out.
“We had salt issues in the blizzard of ’93,” Collins said. He, as other officials, urged everyone to stay off the roads, not only for their own safety, but for the sake of clearing roads.

“Vehicles on the road pack down the snow and make it harder to plow…we’re asking everyone to stay home.” Collins is ‘guestimating’ conditions won’t be safe until Tuesday afternoon.

A Fannin County Sheriff’s Department dispatcher said there were no accidents reported as of 9 a.m. Monday.
