TVA stopped discharge from area reservoirs
News February 22, 2019Blue Ridge, Ga. – While Fannin County has remained for the most part unscathed from mother nature’s recent rains, we are not out of the woods yet.
There have been reports of downed trees and power outages in our area, but thankfully we have thus far been spared from widespread damages.
With only a few more days to go before we see a period of sunny skies, TVA has released a warning for our area.
In an immediate press release TVA warns:
We have stopped discharge from your area’s reservoirs due to the downstream flooding. Depending on the amount of rain we get this weekend, we expect Blue Ridge, Chatuge and all other tributary reservoirs to quick rise to summer pool or above. Residents should check their docks and move any equipment near the shore line to a safe location. Monitor TVA Facebook and Twitter for updates.
TVA released a video via Facebook that explains more indepth the issues that they are facing within their system due to the large amounts of rainfall. You can watch the video by following the link below:

Boil advisory lifted in Copperhill, conservation advisory remains in McCaysville
News December 29, 2017COPPERHILL, Tenn. – A recent boil advisory from the city of Copperhill to its water customers has been lifted after tests confirmed the city system’s water is safe for consumption, according to Copperhill City Recorder Suzanne Hughes.
Hughes confirmed Friday, Dec. 29, water is pumping normally from the McCaysville water treatment plant, which supplies water for both cities, into the Copperhill system.
For McCaysville water customers, however, a water conservation advisory remains in effect as filters at the city’s water treatment plant continue to be replaced, Nancy Godfrey, McCaysville city clerk, stated.
According to Godfrey, the filter replacement at the McCaysville water plant stem from issues that took place at the plant in early October when heavy rains and a seasonal water turnover at Lake Blue Ridge forced an unusual amount of silt and sediment into the Toccoa River, causing filters to fail.
Though work at the plant is expected to continue at the McCaysville water plant into the new year, no specific completion date for the filter replacement could be given from the city of McCaysville at this time.

Scheduled For July: Public Hearing Regarding Change to Walleye Creel and Possession Limits
Featured June 28, 2016SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (June 28, 2016) — The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division is proposing a change to walleye fishing regulations at Lake Blue Ridge in Fannin County. This change would adjust the current walleye creel and possession limit from fifteen (15) to eight (8) fish.
“The current creel and possession limit of fifteen walleye at Lake Blue Ridge was established in the 1970’s and no longer meets management objectives,” says John Biagi, chief of the Fisheries Management Section. “This change would adjust the walleye creel and possession limit to the statewide limit of 8 fish, further simplifying fishing regulations for Georgia anglers.”
The Department has scheduled a public hearing to provide an opportunity for interested citizens to offer input on this proposed change. Those interested are encouraged to bring this meeting to the attention of others that also may be interested in participating. The hearing will begin at 7:00 p.m.
