Mr. Robert Manning Thomas, Sr., age 85, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 in the Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville, GA. Mr. Thomas was born on September 7, 1929 in Fannin County, GA to the late Eugene Manning Thomas and Mary Ethel Adeline Sullivan Thomas. He owned and operated Thomas Insurance Agency in Blue Ridge for many years. He was a member of Blue Ridge First Baptist Church, and a United States Army veteran having served during the Korea Conflict. Mr. Thomas was an avid fisherman and golfer, having had 7 holes in 1 during his lifetime.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife, Betty McDaris Thomas of Blairsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Manning Thomas, Jr. and Cindy Renee Thomas of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Dwight Kay of Blue Ridge, Patricia and Sid Swartz of Warner Robbins, GA, Cindy Lou Gentry of Kennesaw, GA, and Jennifer and Jeff Hassenboehler of Powder Springs, GA; sisters, Gladys Kirby of Marietta, GA and Regina Davis of Morganton, GA; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from Blue Ridge First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Paris and Rev. Bob Richardson officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Music will be by Imogene Stewart and Debbie Jones. Pallbearers will be Wyatt Johnson, Scott Swartz, Thomas Kay, Austin Gentry, Robert Manning Thomas, III, Gabe Seten, Jody Jenkins, and Stephen Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Bency Turner, Bobby Donaldson, Jack Suits, Bill Dunn, Bobby Milam, Kenneth Wood, and Don Shockley. Interment will follow in Chastain Memorial Park with full military honors provided by North Georgia Honor Guard.
