Every school in the state of Georgia is now given a College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Score. Blue Ridge Elementary School’s current CCRPI Score is 82.9 out of 100. When we break down Blue Ridge Elementary School’s CCRPI Score, we find that the students and teachers at Blue Ridge Elementary School have done something quite impressive.A school’s CCRPI Score is calculated by totaling the following categories: Achievement Points, Progress Points, Achievement Gap Points, and Challenge Points. Blue Ridge Elementary School earned 20.2 out of a possible 25 Progress Points. Only two other elementary schools in the state of Georgia tied Blue Ridge Elementary School with 20.2 Progress Points, and only one elementary school in the state earned more Progress Points than Blue Ridge Elementary School. This means that Fannin County’s Blue Ridge Elementary School currently ranks 2nd in the State of Georgia in terms of student progress when compared to all other elementary schools in the state!

For those of you that are curious about the mathematics behind Progress Points and what this truly means, here comes the explanation. Each student who takes a standardized assessment such as a CRCT or a GA Milestones Assessment, earns what is called a Student Growth Percentile (SGP) on that assessment. The SGP represents the percentage of a student’s cohort that he or she outperformed on the assessment. A student is in a cohort with the students across Georgia who have similar scores on past standardized assessments. When a student has an SGP of 35 or greater, it counts positively for a school’s Progress Point total and CCRPI calculation. The maximum amount of Progress Points that a school can earn is 25. The percentage of points a school earns is based on the percentage of SGPs that are 35 or greater. Therefore, if a school has 80% of its students earn SGPs that are 35 or greater, then the school will earn 80% of 25 points, which is 20 points. In Blue Ridge Elementary School’s case, its 20.2 Progress Points means that 81% of its students had an SGP of 35 or greater. This is the second best percentage in the state of Georgia!

Regardless if the mathematics behind the Progress Point calculation interests you or not, it is evident that the students and teachers at Blue Ridge Elementary School deserve a pat on the back. This is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Well done Blue Ridge Elementary School.
