Jimmy Akins, age 83 of Blairsville, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Erlanger Medical Center. Mr. Akins was born October 24, 1931 in Blairsville, GA to the late Mauney and the late Ruby Thomas Akins. He was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. Jimmy was a Masonry Contractor for many years before his retirement. He laid the brick and block on many of the buildings in the local area. Jimmy was a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army.

Surviving family members include: son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Monica Akins of Dahlonega, GA, daughter, Debbie Akins of Blairsville, granddaughter, Hannah Dyer of Ooltewah, TN and sister, Donna Dula of Akron, OH.

Funeral services: Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Ray Potts and Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Music will be provided by Cindy Whitmore. Interment will follow in the Pinetop Baptist Church Cemetery with graveside Military Honors by the U.S. Army and the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Jason Dyer, Gary Canup, Max Cochran, Kenny Akins, Andy Turnage and Doug Dyer.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
