Rebels Fall to the Lions Before Rolling Gilmer

A Friday and Saturday game set left the Rebels and Lady Rebels celebrating wins over rival Gilmer after both teams fall to Franklin.
The teams took the long bus ride to Franklin on Friday for a region match up against the Lions. The Lady Rebels set in for the first match against the closely competitive Lions. Franklin came out strong scoring 21 points in the 1st to the ladies 13.

Lacey Walden made it a close game in the second going 3 for 3 beyond the arch to make the half time score 36-35 Fannin.

The Lady Lions went on a 17-6 3rd quarter run to put the game out of reach for the Lady Rebels. Chandler lead the team with 17 points but would not be enough for a winning falling 54-76.

The Rebels had the same luck against the Lions. Both teams got off to a really slow start leaving the score at the end of one Fannin lead 6-5.

Logan Holt was the only Rebel to score in the second period as the Lions pulled out to a 22-13 lead.

The Lions lead continued throughout the 3rd starting the 4th with a 37-26 lead. The Rebels showed their frustration as Brandon Jordan, Will Holloway and Kai Russell (all starters) received technical fouls in the fourth.

Fannin ended up falling by a final of 56-33 to set up a angry, looking team for a win team as Rival Gilmer was set for the following day.

The Lady Rebels had not had much luck verses the Lady Cats this year falling two previous times in the year. Lady Rebel senior came out strong looking for that signature win for the year.

Three out of the four seniors scored in the opening quarter as the Lady Rebels jumped out to a 15-6 lead. The second quarter showed more Fannin dominance as freshman Hope Franklin opened the quarter with a huge three point play.

Eleven second quarter points lead to a half time score of 26-14.

Halftime adjustments worked for the Lady Cats as Gilmer went on a 13-5 run to set up a close game of 31-27 to open the fourth.

Walden opened the fourth with a big three to stretch the score. Gilmer’s Hannah Jones’ five points was enough to help pull the Cats within one point with 59 seconds on the clock.

Lindsey Humphrey went 3 for 4 on foul shots in the 4th to help the Ladies pull ahead in the final seconds. The Lady Rebels went on to win by a final of 44-39. The win puts the Ladies at 10-10 overall and 3-5 in the Region.

The Rebels showed the same dominance over the Bobcats in their game. Fannin rushed out to a 13-9 first quarter lead scoring on multiple turnovers.

The Rebels made adjustments at the end of the first to shut down Gilmer’s leading scorer allowing the Bobcats to only score three points in the second. Fannin added 12 more points to make a halftime score of 25-12.

The dominate Rebel defense continued throughout the third allowing just five points will the offense scored 12.

Gilmer started finally hitting shots in the fourth scoring 17 points but wouldn’t come close to being enough as the Rebels walked away with a big 48-34 win.

This marks the third consecutive victory over the Rival Bobcats for Fannin. The Rebels now move to 12-8 overall and 3-5 in the region as they get set to travel to West Hall on Tuesday.
