Saturday, December 20 at approximately 8:00PM, we received a call that a hunter was late returning to his truck. EMA responded with 8 personnel, a 4 wheeler and a 6 wheeler along with two personnel from Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, and two DNR officers (Dept. of Natural Resources) to the area of Wilscot Mountain on Hwy. 60 where the hunter had gone into the woods at about 10:00AM that morning and was supposed to return around 1:00PM. Fire and SO personnel began checking nearby roads in the area, hoping the hunter had walked out and found a road. Assistance was requested from Union County Sheriff’s Office to send their tracking dog. When the Union County Officer arrived, his dog immediately picked up the scent of the hunter and within 20 minutes had located him. The hunter was found at approximately 11:30PM unharmed and said he had become disoriented as darkness fell.
