Lady Rebels and Rebels for Fannin Finish Runner Up

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels and Rebels basketball teams competed in the annual Holiday Tip Off Tournament. This year’s tournament was held at Gilmer High School. The Lady Rebels finished as the runner up to the host team Lady Cats, while the Rebels finished as the runner up to Pickens High School, with wins over Copper Basin and Gilmer High School.The tournament began with both teams facing off with Pickens High School. The Lady Rebels, despite leading throughout most of the contest, needed a game winning three pointer from Kayla Chancey to put away the Dragonettes for a 55-52 first game victory over the Dragonettes. The Rebel boys basketball team did not fair as well, falling 58-35 to the eventual champion Dragons.

The second contest for both teams saw each team experience a reversal of fortunes as the Lady Rebels fell to the hosting Lady Cats 46-37. Fannin missed a total of 13 in free throws in the loss. The boys, on the other hand, had a dramatic come from behind win over the Bobcats. Will Holloway’s lay up with seven seconds left in the game sealed the 52-51 win over the defending champions.

The final games for both teams saw blow out wins over the Copper Basin Lady Cougars and Cougars, with the Lady Rebels winning 52-31, and the Rebels winning 69-41.

Molly Chandler, Lindsey Humphrey and Kayla Chancey were named all to the girls’ all tournament team, while Kay Russell Brandon Jordan and Will Holloway were named to the boys’ all tournament team.
