Fannin Technology Student Association Participate in Conference

Rebel's Corner

The Fannin Technology Student Association recently traveled to Jekyll Island, GA to participate in the annual Fall Leadership Conference. Students were able to compete against other students in the State in VEX robotics, First Lego League, and Cardboard Boat Races.
VEX robotics is an international competition where students design and build their own robot to meet the requirements of the VEX Skyrise Challenge. Through the VEX Robotics program students learn the engineering design process, gain mechanical aptitude, and learn to write computer programs.

First Lego League is a robotics competition focused on middle school students. The program is managed through Georgia Tech, and students are able to learn about robotic systems. Students also write their own computer programs to control the actions of their robot in order to complete specific tasks.

For the cardboard boat race, students design and construct a boat using nothing but cardboard and duct tape. The boat must transport two students across the length of a swimming pool.

In addition to competing, students also participated in leadership sessions where they learned techniques to improve their leadership skills.
