Local Students Attend Fall Leadership Conference

Officers from the Fannin County Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently participated in a weekend leadership conference held September 19-20, 2013 at the FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington, Georgia.Over 1200 students and advisers from 174 schools across Georgia participated in leadership workshops, planned the chapter program of work and participated in competitions. Students were motivated by the conference theme “Outta the Park”. Along with other advisers and members from across the state, Fannin County FCCLA chapter adviser, Lynn A Burch accompanied five officers to the meeting.

Friday was filled with breakout sessions and the STAR Events Walk Through with examples of the 2013 National Conference winners. During the time the chapters had an opportunity to network and plan their program of work for the year. Chapters also had the chance to compete in several events including: T-shirt Design, State Lapel Pin Design, Membership Recruitment and Statesman Award. At the conclusion of the day the awards ceremony was held to recognize all of the accomplishments of the competition winners. Caitlyn Jones placed in the 10 ten in the state T-shirt design contest.

FCCLA is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. FCCLA is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only in-school organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.
