John Orvin Lance, age 88 of Morganton, passed away Tuesday October 21, 2014 at Fannin Regional Hospital.Mr. Lance was born March 9, 1926 in Morganton, to the late Orvin Pearley Lance and the late Viola Phillips Lance. He was an active member of Morganton Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran serving his country in Germany during WWII from 1944-1946. Orvin was a local business man and had served as manager of Stone Products Corporation in Hemp, GA, owned Lance Trailer Sales and he was president of Lance Trucking and Construction Company. He served on the board of Peoples and United Community Banks and he was former post # 1 commissioner in Fannin County. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Hedden, brother, James Norman Lance, sister, Essie Lance Dilbeck, grandson, Randy Lance.

Survivors include: wife, Louise Rogers Lance, son, Larry (Loretta) Lance, son, Gary (Linda) Lance, grandchildren, James Larry Lance, Tanya Lynn (D.J.) Daveport, Lori Lachelle (Kevin) Bundy, Christopher (Kristen) Hedden, Kevin Gary (Melissa) Lance, Amanda Sue (Richard) Daves great grandchildren, Hunter Davenport, Hannah Davenport, Dawson Davenport, Hope Lance, Kaylee Bundy, Luke Bundy, Brittani Sosebee, Dakota Sosebee, Austin Lance, Peyton Sosebee, Carder Lance, Peyton Daves, Kaitlyn Daves, Ryan Daves and Sydney Wynn Hedden and sister-in-law, Alta Lance.

Funeral services: Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Keith Jones, Rev. James Howard Galloway and Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Music provided by: Beverly Thompson and Greg Norton . Interment will follow in Morganton Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Richard Daves, Kevin Lance, Chris Hedden, Kevin Bundy, D.J. Davenport and Brian Mathews. Honorary pallbearers: Roy Panter, Junior Mason, Harold Parker, Blake Collins, Hayne Clore, Ed Howard, Marvin Hyde, Sam Bennett and members of the men’s adult Sunday school class at Morganton Baptist Church, .

The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Thursday, October 23, 2014, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
