Doris Jane Woody, age 74, of Morganton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at home in peace.She was born Dec. 15, 1939 in Fannin County to the late James Bunyon Ray and the late Nelle Marie Farmer Ray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Garfield Woody; and sister Lois Ray Cole.

Doris Jane was a member of the Pentecostal faith having attended the House of Prayer in Mineral Bluff many years ago. She was a very loving mother to her two sons and loving grandmother. She was a devoted Christian deeply serving the Lord in every way possible during her lifetime. She was a testament to the love and spirit that Jesus shares with mankind. She married her husband at a young age and moved to Michigan where she had two sons. They then moved back to Fannin in 1968 where they raised their two boys. During these years she worked for the hosiery mill in town and other sewing plants. Doris Jane spent much of her life caring for her aunts Nan and Zinnie, Uncle Teddy, husband George; and her mother and father.

She had a heart for playing the piano with the gift of playing by ear. Her favorite music was old gospel hymnals. She enjoyed spending time reading the Bible and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in law Dale and Debbie Woody and Wayne and Mel Woody; grandchildren Brianne (Chandler) Collar, Ashley (Charlie) Raffinie, Derrick Woody and Abby (Rodney) Merrell; great-grandchildren Thomas Collar, Olivia Collar, McKenna Merrell and Phoenix Woody.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Sept. 28, immediately following worship service at Morganton Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Parris. Music will be provided by granddaughter Ashley Raffinie and eulogy by granddaughter Brianne Collar.
