Panthers Pounce on Rebels

The Fannin County High School Rebels football team took to the road on Friday and made the short drive up to Union County to take on the Panthers. Junior quarterback Joseph Mancuso for the Panthers was just too much, throwing four TD passes in the first quarter to put up Union a 35-8 win.
Union started the game receiving the ball and set up shop around the 25 yard line after a short opening kick by the Rebels. Over coming a couple of third down conversions the Panthers scored on a 31 yard strike to the end zone with 8:36 left in the first to go up 7-0.

The Rebel offense took to the field looking to go to the air in their first set of downs. Cooper Earls was able to pick up a pass inference giving the Rebels a big third down conversion.

Daniel Lange followed with a big grab to keep the ball moving for the Rebels. On a short fourth down the Rebels tried to get Beaver’s ground attack working and would come up just short of a first.

Just a few plays later Union found the end zone once again through the air this time coming on a 49 yard touchdown pass with 5:49 in the first making the score 14-0.

Brad Davis did a fantastic job throughout the first getting away from the constant pressure from the Panther defense. On a second and twenty, Davis found Lange for a huge pick up lifting the spirits of the Rebel sideline.

Davis on the fast paced drive kept the ball up the middle on a fourth and one but would be stopped just shy of the first. The spot had most of the Fannin Coaches apparently angry at the call.

On the ensuing drive the Panthers picked up a 43 yard pass play that would have been a touchdown pass if Jerrod Petty had not stopped the Union receiver inside the five yard line. The Panthers found the end zone on a short pass to the right side to go up 21-0 with 2:24 in the first.

Fannin was forced to punt on the next drive, letting Union take over the ball around midfield. On the final play of the first quarter, Union found the end zone on a 25 yard pass play to put the Panthers up 28-0 to end the first.

Davis’ pass would land in the wrong hands in the opening drive of the second quarter, but Fannin’s defense stood up to the challenge and held the Panthers forcing Union to turn the ball over on downs.

Fannin held the Panthers out of the end zone for the remainder of the half leaving a half time score of 28-0.Union found the end zone for the final time on the night with a short pass with 3:40 in the third. Hunter O’Neal found the end zone with 2 mins left in the fourth to keep the Panthers from having a shutout victory.

Fannin looks to take the bye week and get ready for the Leopards of Banks County that will be a Homecoming game.
