Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces graveside services for Margaret Marelle Lowenthal, better known as “Bobbie”, age 85, of Newnan, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014 in Peachtree City, Georgia.Bobbie was born in Blairsville, Georgia, in her home, which she affectionately referred to as “the old homeplace”, on January 9, 1929. She was the youngest of four sisters, born to William J. Sullivan and Sarah Lou Sullivan. Her Daddy, Jess Sullivan, was hoping she would be a boy and called her Robert as a result. Robert was changed to Bobbie, and that’s what she went by thereafter. Her mother, Sarah, was a perfect example of a “true lady” and raised her daughters to be the same. Around age 7, she was baptized and joined Choestoe Baptist Church. Her oldest sisters, Opal and Mildred, helped raise the two younger sisters, Mary Lynn and Bobbie.

In the 1940’s, Jess and Sarah moved to Atlanta for job opportunities. This move resulted in Bobbie meeting Mark and creating the loving family they had together. They raised Carl and Lynn in Forest Park, Georgia, where they were all members of Forest Park First Baptist Church. Mark and Bobbie moved back to Blairsville in 1986 after Mark retired from the United States Post Office. They enjoyed retired living on their 10 acres with their pets Cookie, Mickey, and Pepper. They enjoyed hosting several years of family reunions at their home. Their grandchildren, Christopher and Kelly, have many fond memories of spending weeks during the summer with their grandparents and attending Vacation Bible School. In addition, Mark and Bobbie always opened their home to any guests who wanted to get away to the mountains for the weekend.

Mark passed away in 2000 and shortly thereafter Bobbie moved back to Atlanta to be close to Carl and Lynn. During her time there, Bobbie was able to enjoy time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Bobbie is survived by her son and daughter, Carl and Lynn; her grandchildren, Christopher and Kelly; and her great grandchildren, Violet, Maddox, and Kamree. She is also survived by her older sister, Mildred.

Graveside services for Bobbie are scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jack Cochran officiating.

Bobbie, known as Mini Pa to her grandchildren, will be greatly missed. Her sweet smile and loving spirit was like no other. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. Please share your condolences with Bobbie’s family on our website, www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
