Dorothy (Dottie) Hill Bishop, born Corn Born November 10, 1927 Demorest, Georgia Deceased March 10, 2014Her parents were Tom and Mona Corn of Blue Ridge. Her father died in 1937 and her mother in 1993. Her mother was retired from the USPS. She will be buried in Harmony Cemetery next to her mother and father.

Dottie as raised in Blue Ridge; attended school there as well as at Rabun Gap. Later she attended the University of Georgia and went on to St. May College in Tucson, AZ where she studied to be a Registered Nurse. These studies took her to California, for advanced courses in such fields as psychiatric care. She later worked at M.D. Anderson Clinic in Houston. After that she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked at the Hospital Center and did private duty nursing. Following that she became the personal nurse for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kissinger. Subsequently, she served as an Embassy nurse in Sanaa, Yemen and New Delhi, India two posts that she served at with her husband, Vernon E. (Gene) Bishop. In Yemen and India, Dottie was our Embassy nurse and an active supporter of Blessed Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity and was closely associated with Mother Teresa.

The family includes her husband, Vernon E. (Gene) Bishop; step-sons, Bryan and Chris Bishop and their wives Karen and Shaun; grandchildren, Justin and wife Jessica, Tiffany, Adam, Logan, and Carly Bishop all of whom live in Northern Virginia. Also two great grandchildren, Emma Rose and Kaytlyn Elizabeth and first cousins, Roy Ellis, Dale Ellis, Douglas Ellis and Donald Ellis.

We are grateful she was blessed with a life of love and service to those who were ill and less fortunate. We grateful for all of friends and family who have been so lovingly supportive during the many years of illness she endured. Pray for her please!

Funeral mass will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. fom Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father John Conley officiating. Music will be by Ruth McCart. Pallbearers will be Russell Cornell, Nick Cappelli, Christopher Ripp, Dale Ellis, Mark Fiedler and Sam Bennett. Interment will follow in Harmony Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.akinsfuneralhome.com. Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
