The Rebels of Fannin are looking forward to another big year as the team sent an opening statement to Towns County winning the season opener 11-0.
Sophomore Jusdon Hawkins picked up his first win of the season pitching two innings for the Rebels retiring all six batters, two with strikeouts.
After a scoreless first the Fannin batters got to work. Senior Trevor Stone started the inning off reaching on one of three Towns County errors.
Garrett Hester would later pick up the first of two RBIs on a double to send Stone across home plate. Fannin left two runners stranded in the second but after the 1-0 lead there was no looking back.
Jerod Petty took to the mound in the third quickly retiring three batters. The bottom of the third the Rebels showed the crowd their batting skills. Jordan Gray got the run to start coming in after an RBI flyout scored James Pellegrino.
Noah O’Neal reached on an error that would load the bases. Hester next up picked up a single to score one run. This left the bases loaded once again. Hunter Rice stepped up to the plate and hit a huge single to score two.
After the four run third the Rebels expanded their lead to 5-0. Cody Falls was called upon to shut down Towns in the fourth. Falls gave up Towns County’s only hit before he picked up two strikeouts to end the inning.
The Rebels pulled away in the bottom of the fourth with a six run inning. Stone and Falls both picked up two RBIs on two doubles. O’Neal pick up an RBI on a single and Pellegrino got the last of the RBIs on a groundout.
O’Neal closed the game out with a flyout and two strikeouts. The explosive Rebels look forward to two big games this weekend against rival Union and Gilmer Counties.
