Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. John Jarrett Turner, Jr., age 87, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at his home.John was born in Blairsville on February 13, 1926, a son of the late John Jarrett Turner, Sr., and the late Magnolia Nix Turner. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served courageously during World War II. John was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Blairsville for over 50 years. Besides his parents, he had been preceded in death by his wife, Sue; and four brothers: Preston Turner, Harry Turner, Price Turner, and Edward Turner.

John was dearly loved and will be missed so much by all who knew him – especially his family members: son and daughter-in-law, James Garry and Kim Turner, of Murrayville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, John Larry and Karen Turner, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Lynn and Bo Edwards, of St. Petersburg, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Terrie Ann and Jay Mitchell, of Jacksonville, Florida; and son and daughter-in-law, Richard Nicolas and Jennifer Turner, of Tazewell, Tennessee; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Sue Collins, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Evelyn Turner, of Blairsville; brother, Lonnie Turner, of Atlanta; and sister, Sybil Owenby, of Atlanta; Eleven grandchildren: Nicolas Turner, Ryan Turner, Jordan Turner, Lara Turner, Branden Edwards, Kerrie Edwards, Kristen Edwards, Michelle Smith, Joshua Mitchell, Noah Turner, and Luke Turner; great grandson, Tyler Smith; great granddaughters: Aurora Mitchell, Marley Smith, Charlotte Turner; step granddaughters: Blair Goldbacher, Nicole Goldbacher, Christina Goldbacher, Katie Wyatt, Courtney Buchanan, and step grandson, Chad Cooper. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Turner have been scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Nicolas Turner, Ryan Turner, Joshua Mitchell, Branden Edwards, Bo Edwards, Jay Mitchell, Brad McAfee, Luke Turner, Noah Turner, and Tyler Smith. John will be laid to rest next to his wife, Sue, in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville. Visitation will be held on Monday, starting at 12:00 noon, at First Baptist Church of Blairsville, two hours before the funeral service begins.
