Mrs. Minnice Kate Kirby, age 91 of Blue Ridge, passed away January 3, 2014 at Fannin Regional Hospital.Mrs. Kirby was born February 11, 1922 in Murphy, NC to the late Noah Lovingood and the late Emma Peek Lovingood . She was preceded in death by husband, James L. Kirby, who passed away January 3, 2009 and well as her parents.

She attended Harmony Baptist Church. She was a very well known person in Fannin County and the best biscuit maker for 37 years in Blue Ridge. Mrs. Kirby was the biscuit maker for The Trailer for 31 years. She also worked for the City Cafe’ and the Tastee Freeze. She grew up in Murphy, NC and her mom wouldn’t let her cook and her dad wouldn’t eat her cooking. She met her husband James while she was living in Hiawassee, Ga. He came to her house selling the Grits magazine and she told her parents that he would be her husband and they laughed at her. They were married for 66 years and worked together at The Trailer, with him on the register and her making biscuits.

Survivors include: son, Bill (Linda) Kirby, daughter, Wanda Kirby Lunsford, granddaughters, Michele Swords and Cassy King, great grandchildren, Zeke Swords and Abby Swords.

Funeral services: Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Beavers and Rev. Roger Burgess officiating. Music provided by: Joyce and Rodney Panter . Interment will follow in Chastain Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Ronnie Hilton, William Mashburn, Denny McAllister, Rusty Rhodes, Toby Rhodes and Don Miller.

The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Saturday, January 04, 2014 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
