Changes on the Horizon for 7-AAA

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has announced the official region lineups starting in 2014, which features two new schools to the Fannin Rebels’ 7-AAA region. The two new schools in 7-AAA will be Franklin County and Lumpkin County, which were added following the departures of Buford, North Hall and White County, which all moved up to 8-AAAA.

Adding these two schools makes a deal of sense geographically for Fannin; Lumpkin is only one hour and ten minutes away from Blue Ridge, while Franklin is a considerably longer drive, taking approximately two hours to get there from Fannin County High School.

Fannin has experience playing these two schools on the football field, with the Rebels having played Lumpkin every season from 1986 to 1999 as members of 7-AA. Meanwhile, Fannin has only faced Franklin once, which was a 15-12 victory for Fannin back in 1995, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians’ Association.

The addition of Franklin and Lumpkin gives 7-AAA a grand total of seven schools in 2014: Banks, Dawson, East Hall, Fannin, Franklin, Lumpkin, and West Hall.
