Rowdy Rebels Go Out With a Fight

The nine seniors of Fannin County High School’s Rebels football team took their final snaps at the high school level as Fannin took on and lost to East Hall Friday by the score of 55-20.The Rebels started the game by electing to receive to try and get the offense going early. Without a strong start, the offense quickly went three and out.

Fannin’s defense showed up quickly, stopping East Hall to get the ball back. Jerod Petty, along with Peyton Satterfield, pushed the ball up the field for the Rebels to get the offense going.

Trevor Stone found senior Noah O’Neal down, the field completing a huge pass to get the Rebels deep into East Hall territory.

The Viking defense made a big play on third down, with a sacking of Stone. This would set up a fourth and 15 from the Vikings’ 20. Without a veteran kicker, the Rebels elected to go for the first down.

Stone found one of his favorite receivers open as Satterfield caught the ball in the end zone to put the Rebels on the board first. On the following PAT Stone received a bad snap and could not get the kick out in time.

The score was 6-0 in Fannin’s favor with 2:08 left in the first quarter. The Vikings didn’t allow the score to remain like that for long. Two plays later East Hall broke for a 30 plus yard run to get deep into Rebel territory.

With 22 seconds left in the first quarter, East Hall got on the board to make the score 7-6.

Fannin struggled to get the ball moving on its next offensive attempt. After going three and out the Rebels faced a punt situation.

Stone got off a good kick but the East Hall return man was too much for the Rebels. The Viking player returned the ball 60 yards for the touchdown for a score of 14-6 with 10:13 remaining in the first half of the game.

The Rebels’ defense tried to step up, but with an injured O’Neal the Vikings were able to find the end zone again on a 20 yard touchdown screen pass. This put the score at 21-6 with five minutes remaining in the first half.

Senior quarterback Stone would move the ball down the field on multiple scrambles coming off a plethora of play action pass plays.

This set up a Satterfield two yard run to the end zone for the Rebels. Hunter Rice came up big pulling down a Stone pass to complete the two point conversion for the Rebels. With 15 second left in the first half the Rebels trailed by seven with a score of 14-21.

East Hall came out of the locker room ready to go. The quarterback had a break away run that got the Vikings down to the Fannin four yard line. The Vikings would push their way into the end zone a couple of plays later to make the score 28-14.

After a failed drive for the Rebels, East Hall got set up around the 50 to begin its drive. On the following play a Fannin player would get into a pushing match causing multiple players to start fighting.

When all the dust settled, three Fannin players and five East Hall players were thrown out of the game. As a result of the injuries and losing players the Vikings seemed to take control of the game.

East Hall scored on the drive to make it 35-14 with 4 minutes left in the third. Penalties caused the Rebels to give the Vikings great field position allowing East Hall to score once at the beginning of the 4th making the score 49-14.

Petty sparked up the Rebels driving his way into the end zone on the next drive for the Rebels.

The Vikings would get into the end zone once more before the final whistle making the final score 55-20.
