Fannin County High School held Senior Night Friday as the Buford Wolfs came into town to take on the football team. Nine seniors: Mason Buchanan, Blake Carroll, Cody Gray, Jordan Gray, Connor Jones, Noah O’Neal, Peyton Satterfield, Trevor Stone, Treblu Tatum, played in their last home game for the Rebels as the team fell 45-8.
Fannin started the game off strong. Receiving the ball first, as the boys in blue would pick up a first down from Jerod Petty. After a couple of near complete passes the Rebels were forced to punt.
Two plays later the Wolves would get on the board after on a 37 yard touchdown pass. With 7:27 left in the first, the score was 7-0.
Satterfield looked to get the Rebels going with a 29 yard return on the kickoff putting Fannin at its own 30 yard line. Penalties set the Rebels back, making it a tough set of downs.
Petty’s ten yard reception on third down was short, causing the Rebels to punt. After a squib from Stone, the Wolfs lined up on the Buford 26 yard line.
Fannin held strong, holding the Wolves to a slow drive until Buford’s running back broke a tackle. He was off to the races with a 62 yard run to the end zone. This made the score 14-0 with 3:05 left in the first quarter.
After a quick three and out for the Rebels, the Wolves took over deep in Rebel territory following a short punt. The Rebels defense stepped up holding the Wolves on three plays. The Wolves broke through the defense after going for it on fourth and one.
Catching the Rebels off guard on the next play, the Wolves quickly got the ball to the running back for him to pick up the 23 yard touch down with 11:23 left in the second quarter.
Hunter Rice tried to get the momentum going for the Rebels as he and Stone hooked up for a great catch; however, the drive would not last long as Fannin line up for a punt a few plays later.
The Wolves found the end zone two more times before the half. Going into the locker rooms the clock read 35-0.
Buford made quick work receiving the ball with the third quarter started. On the Wolves first play from scrimmage Buford found the end zone; but due to a penalty it would be called back.
Three plays later Buford found the end zone putting the score at 42-0. The score stayed that way point until the fourth quarter.
The Rebels would start the fourth quarter with a huge pass to Satterfield. The pass would go 68 yards to the end zone.
Fannin, working without an experienced kicke,r lined up for two. Stone found O’Neal in the corner of the end zone and completed the two point conversion making the score 42-8.
Fannin held Buford to one more score. This came from a field goal late in the game. The final on the night ended at 45-3.
The Rebels hit the road on Friday as they travel to Dawson in looks for Fannin’s third “W.”
