Fannin County School System had a wet and rainy start to the new year, but they made the best of it. FYN was at West Fannin as well as Fannin County High School this morning to watch the kids enter the building for the new year. With the conditions outside, the staff of the schools did an excellent job. Kids were helped on and off the buses with ease. The first day jitters were not present. The faculty and staff was running like it was the third month of school.

FYN spoke to Ms. Theresa Dillard, Assistant Principal of FCHS. She stated,

“The first day was outstanding. Our kids were on task and on target. According to our new teachers they were impressed on how smoothly the day went and how great our students were.”

According to Ms. Dillard the bus garage did an excellent job. There were no late buses to the high school and all students knew where to go.

Ms. Dillard would go on to state,

“All of the staff did an amazing job with the new teachers and the number of students increasing from late enrollment.”

FYN was also able to speak with Benny Long, Director of Transportation and Safety. He stated,

“This morning was wonderful. We started this morning with four substitute bus drivers. We did have two late buses, but neither was over 10 minutes. I am pleased to say it was a great morning with no mechanical issues and no major delays.”

Long went on to tell that both of the late buses were subs, but they did an excellent job for their first day running the route. Buses running in the evening are also running smoothy with no issue. Long went on to say,

“We look forward to a wonderful year.”
