The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels basketball team traveled to Decatur High School to take on the Lady Bulldogs in the first round of the state basketball tournament. Fannin fell to Decatur 54-30. The loss ended the Lady Rebels season.
The physical contest was a challenge for Fannin from the start. The Lady Bulldogs’ press presented problems for the Lady Rebels. After going up by two, 6-4, via two free throws, the Lady Bulldogs hounded the Lady Rebels with pressing paws and closed the first quarter with a 7-2 run and a 13-6 lead heading into the second quarter.
Decatur began the second quarter with a 5-2 run that put the home team up 18-8 with 5:17 left in the first half. The Lady Rebels responded with a 4-1 run that cut the lead to 19-12 with 1:56 left in the half. Decatur led 25-19 at half time.
Fannin’s Logan O’Neal opened the second half with a three, off an assist from Morgan Chastain, that cut Decatur’s lead in half. However, the Decatur defense held Fannin to four more points throughout the rest of the quarter, allowing Decatur to lead 41-26 going into the fourth.
After scoring a total of 11 second half points, the Lady Rebels lost 54-30, ending Fannin’s basketball season. Molly Chandler led the Lady Rebels with 12 points. Hope Cochran led Fannin in rebounds with seven; four offensive.
