Gailey Wins Spelling Bee!
Blue Ridge Elementary School held its annual spelling bee for fourth and fifth graders.
Students began by competing within their classes, then three winners from each grade proceeded to the next level of the competition. The school wide competition was held in a vacant classroom at the school. The contest was judged by school administrators and was announced by, former Blue Ridge Elementary Educator, Barry Abbot.
School finalists included fourth graders Emily McClure, Taylor Tarpley and Andrew Harris. The fifth grader finalists were Jackson Weeks, Jacob Gailey and Luke Hollaway. After many rounds of spelling, the face off fell between Emily McClure and Jacob Gailey. Gailey won the competition. When speaking with Gailey about his win, he told FYN that he was glad his Mom was able to attend the event.
With his victory, Gailey will represent his school at the county wide spelling bee that will take place at the Board of Education office on January 30th. FYN will be there to find out who will represent Fannin County in the district event.
“Abbot is a representative for the Georgia Association of Educators and we are thrilled to have him attend this event”said Shannon York, Assistant Principal.

“She's good at that kind of stuff,”he said,
“She is always there for me.”
