Fannin County and Morganton moved closer to signing a long-awaited water deal this week.During the December 19th Fannin County Water Authority Meeting Chairman Mike Queen said he had spoken with Morganton Mayor Mike England about the on-going water deal between Morganton and Fannin County. Queen said he received word that the anticipated contract between Fannin and Morganton would be signed during Morganton’s scheduled January 8th meeting.

“Assuming that we don’t make any changes, their council will sign it at their January meeting,”

Queen said. Queen also highlighted some changes in the contract, but said they were minor changes the Water Authority had no issues with accepting. One of the changes was the addition of a clause stating that in the event that any construction is done by the Water Authority, the grounds will be placed back as they were prior to construction.

“We would have done that anyway,”

Queen said.

After discussing these changes, a motion was made to grant Queen the authority to sign the document on behalf of the Water Authority Board to make the document official, rather than holding a special meeting or waiting until the scheduled January 16, 2013 meeting. The motion was approved and Queen said he would sign the document as soon as he received word that Morganton Council Members had completed their signatures.
