Red Elephants Ruin Rebels Ride to Gainesville

The Fannin County High School Rebels wrestling team rode to the Red Elephants home in Gainesville for a dual match meet between the two teams. Fannin faced a daunting task, losing to the Gainesville 60-15. Sean and Blake Callahan were the only two Rebels to win their respective matches.The day began with four junior varsity matches. Fannin fell in all four, after the dual there were four more matches. The Rebels one won of them.

The dual match began with Rebel, Caleb Chancey, engaged in a fierce battle at the 106lbs match. Regulation end with both wrestlers tied 8-8. Chancey succumbed to a two point take down, losing the match in the over-time, and giving the Red Elephants a 3-0 team lead.

The two teams then exchanged forfeits to make the score 9-6 in Gainesville’s favor. The Red Elephants ran off eight straight wins, with five pins and two forfeits, taking a commanding 54-6 lead.

The streak came to an end at the 195lbs match. Sean Callihan scored a pin, which gave Fannin six more team points. Sean Callihan followed with a 7-2 minor win that gave the Rebels its last three team points.

The Rebels will next take part in the Oconoee County Duals on Saturday December 15th at 9am.
