The Fannin Rebels and Lady Rebels had a disappointing night on Tuesday, as both squads fought hard but ultimately came up short against their counterparts from Pickens.
The opening game of the evening featured the Lady Rebels and the Dragonettes in a game that looked promising for Fannin in the beginning but soon took a turn for the worst.
The first quarter of the game saw the Lady Rebels remain within striking distance of the Dragonettes, trailing Pickens 12-6 at the quarter’s conclusion.
The second quarter would prove to be the Lady Rebels’ undoing, as several mistakes on offense and trouble defending the Dragonettes led to a 25-9 run by Pickens in the quarter, leaving the Rebels in a 37-15 hole at the half.
Needing to get back into the game, the Lady Rebels fought hard in the third quarter, which included a nice three-point play by Hope Cochran with 6:30 remaining on the clock, but once the quarter ended the team found itself down 53-30.
Fannin made a run in the fourth, outscoring Pickens 16-11, but it was not enough to come out with a victory. The Dragonettes would win the game by the final score of 64-46.
Hope Cochran led the Lady Rebels in both scoring and rebounding with fourteen points and five rebounds, respectively. Morgan Chastain and Molly Chandler also had fine nights shooting the ball, as Chastain finished the game with eight points and Chandler finished with seven.
Three Lady Rebels—Chandler, Jace Armstrong, and McKenzy Ryder—ended the game with four rebounds.
Next up was the matchup between the Rebels and the Dragons in a contest that would not be decided until the clock showed all zeroes.
The first quarter of the boys’ game went exactly like the girls’ as far as points are concerned, as the Dragons got on a run at the end of the quarter and led the Rebels 12-6 at its conclusion.
The second quarter of play was not very productive for the Rebels despite some hard play by all the Fannin players on the court, and at the half the team entered the locker room in a 27-14 deficit.
Fannin began to slowly wake up in the third quarter, utilizing foul shots and rebounding to put up eleven points, leaving the score at 37-25 going into the final period.
Now in a do-or-die situation, the Rebels rallied in the fourth quarter, putting up nineteen points in the final eight minutes of the game.
While Fannin fought its way back to contention, problems with foul shots proved to seal the Rebels’ fates, and a three-point attempt that failed to go in as the seconds ticked down ended any hope of a come-from-behind victory for Fannin. The Dragons would win by the slim margin of 47-44.
Will Patterson led all scorers with fifteen points in the defeat. Patterson also had four rebounds and three steals.
Jason Arp led the Rebels in rebounding with eight in the contest.
The Rebels and Lady Rebels hit the court again on Friday, as they travel to Oakwood, Georgia to take on the West Hall Spartans and Lady Spartans. The girls’ game is set to start at 7:00 with the boys’ matchup following its conclusion.
