Fannin Sheriff Speaks Out About Davenport Shooting

Fannin County Deputy Involved in Shooting(Fannin County, GA) On November 22, 2012 at approximately 5:30 am Fannin County deputies responded to 255 Parks Road Blue Ridge, GA reference a home invasion. Deputy Mike Earley arrived on the scene and encountered a male exiting the residence brandishing a shotgun. The man was later identified as Carl Davenport.

As Earley identified himself and gave multiple verbal commands for Davenport to drop the weapon and stop, he failed to comply with lawful commands. Davenport eventually made an aggressive move toward Deputy Earley and forced Deputy Earley to act. Earley fired his weapon and Davenport was wounded.

Davenport was transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where he remains in critical condition.

The Deputy that was involved in the shooting has been placed on routine paid administrative leave. Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Cleveland Regional Office are conducting an investigation into the shooting.
