Winnie Crawford : Obituary
Winnie Crawford, 84, a proud citizen of "Happy Top" in Andrews, NC and beloved mother and grandmother passed away Wednesday October 31, 2012.
She was loved by all who knew her and survived by her two sons, Michael (and Barbara) and John (and Kyrita), her grandchildren, Kalisha and Jacob, her nieces, nephews and extended family, and her many well-fed pets. Winnie always had a kind word and a helping hand for family, friends, neighbors, and animals. In the words of her grandson: Mema was as strong as the mountains, as sweet as the air, and as pure as the water. The last of a generation of true Appalachian mountain women - she will be sorely missed and well remembered by all who heard her many stories she loved to tell with a sparkling grin. Winnie did not wish to have a memorial service; those who would like can make a donation to the Humane Society of Cherokee County in her memory.

Me-Ma Crawford will be sorely missed. Her knowledge of the mountains in NC was unparalled. She basically raised the town of Andrews. From her decades of service as a nurse at the Andrews Hospital, assisting hundreds, probably thousands,to her years as Human Service Worker at Cherokee Social Services, and as an Alderwoman, she helped the residents of Andrew from her birth to her death. The citizens of Andrews and her remaining family would do well to commemorate her life with a monument for all to see and remember her amazing deeds. May God Rest Her Soul.
