The Fannin County High School Rebels football team fell 54-12 at home to the Tigers of Dawson County. The Rebels never led in the contest and saw a 21-0 deficit before Peyton Satterfield scored the first Fannin touchdown of the night.
The Rebels’ rough night began with a 53 yard scoring drive by the Tigers that commenced with a two yard touchdown run by Zack Martin with 9:48 left in the first quarter.
Down 7-0, the Rebels punted on the next possession after four Fannin plays. On the first offensive play of the ensuing possession, Dawson quarterback, Tyler Dominy, connected with Mitchell Putnam on a 71 yard pass and reception for the second Tigers’ touchdown of the night.
After an interception set up Dawson County with a short field, the Tigers scored when Dominy connected with Bruce Clark for his second touchdown toss of the night. With 5:48 left in the first quarter, Fannin faced a 21-0 deficit.
Fannin’s Tyler Beaver set the Rebels up with fantastic field position on the strength of a 56 yard return on the ensuing kick off. A penalty and a sack forced Fannin into a fourth and forever, however a fake punt pass to Noah O’Neal set up the Rebels with a first and goal from the two yard line.
Three plays later, Satterfield scored on the aforementioned first Fannin touchdown of the night, cutting the lead to 21-6, after a missed extra point. The Rebels would close the quarter with the score 21-6.
The Rebels would pull no further as the Tigers ripped off three unanswered touchdowns and 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 41-6 lead into half time.
The second half saw the Rebels score the second and last Fannin touchdown of the night. Trevor Stone connected with Satterfield for a 65 yard touchdown pass and reception that made the score 48-12.
With both teams playing mostly back ups in the second half, neither team mustered more than one offense touchdown in the game’s latter half. The last score of the night came via a Dawson County fumble recovery as time expired.
Fannin football season will commence when Fannin faces the Vikings of East Hall at home Friday November, 9th.
