Vikings Invade Rebel Land: Pillage and Plunder Way to Two Wins

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels and Rebels’ basketball teams hosted the Lady Vikings and Vikings of East Hall. Both Vikings teams posted 30 point plus victorious. The Lady Vikings won 57-23, and the Vikings posted a 70-34 victory.Neither Rebels team was able to buy shots with confederate money at Robert E. Lee’s house. The Lady Rebels’ fame began as a defensive struggle; only eight points were scored the first quarter. Fannin held a 5-3 lead going into the second quarter.

The roots of the problems for the Lady Rebels began as things fell apart in the second quarter. The visiting Viking ladies outscored the home team 17-6 in the second period. East Hall began the quarter on an 8-0 run. The first Lady Rebels’ bucket of the period did not come until just under three minutes were left in the half, and Amanda Kinser scored on a jumper, with an assist from Logan O’Neal. The Lady Vikings led 20-11 at half time.

Things began on the right foot for Fannin in the second half when Ashley Ellison stole the ball and Hope Cochran scored with a put back lay up. Ellison finished the game with a game high eight steals. Cochran led all rebounders with 10.

The Vikings answered Cochran’s put back with five points on two baskets from Jasmine Jenkins. Fannin only scored one more basket in the period. East Hall led 39-15 at the end of third, and ended the game with a 57-23 win.

The Rebels simply had no answer for the Vikings’ press in the boys’ game. East Hall pressed the whole game like a laundry mat with a special on starch. The Rebels had problems getting the ball up the court, as the Vikings’ plundering resulted in 28 picked pockets.
East Hall built an eight point lead, 14-6, going into the second quarter. A lead that only increased as the Rebels managed only 10 points in the second quarter, while East Hall raced to a 35-16 half time lead.

Despite the big lead, the Vikings continued to press throughout the second half leading to the lopsided 70-34 final score. Luke Adams led the Rebels in scoring with 11 points, and rebounds with six.
