Fannin Falls: Banks Spanks 42-21

The Fannin High School Rebels football team fell to the Leopards of Banks County. The Leopards leapt over the Rebels 42-21. The Rebels simply had no answer for Bank’s bruising back, Dean Ewing, who ran over, around, and through the Rebels’ defense all night.Fannin failed to hold on to it’s first possession. A fumble by Fannin’s Peyton Satterfield was recovered by Banks on the Leopards’ 35 yard line. The Leopards’ play was less than spotty, as Banks drove the ball 65 yards to the end zone, with the drive cumulating in an 18 yard touchdown run by Ewing. The subsequent extra point was good, and the Leopards led 7-0 with 4:36 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing kick off, Peyton Satterfield took the kick off 43 yards to the Banks’ 40 yard line. The Rebels’ offense moved the ball to the Banks 31 yard line, however, Fannin’s fourth down conversion attempt failed and the Leopards took over.

The Rebel’s defense held and Fannin forced a punt; however, the Leopards returned the favor. Banks’s Malcolm Mitchell, returned the punt 29 yards, setting up Leopards on the Rebels’ 33 yard line. Ewing eventually scored on a one yard touchdown plunge. With 5:18 left in the half, Banks led 14-0.

Fannin was able to move the ball with success on the next drive, however, a missed field goal attempt on fourth and two gave the Leopards the ball on the Banks 20 yard line with just under three and a half minutes left in the half.

Banks moved the ball the entire 80 yards, with quarterback, Tyler Hubbard, connected with Marquaze Maddox for a five yard touchdown, on a play action bootleg with 32 seconds left in the half. The Rebels were somewhat distraught due an injury to star running/defensive back Peyton Satterfield, who was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital with 2:35 left in the half.

Down 21-0 the Rebels did not lay down in the second half, scoring on the opening drive of the second half, when Trevor Stone crossed the goal line on a quarterback sneak on third and goal. With 6:19 left in the third quarter, the Rebels had cut the lead to 21-7.

The momentum was short lived, as Ewing scored on a 70 yard scamper on the next Banks possession to make the score 28-7, a mere 22 seconds later.

Fannin’s fight was not extinguished as Kyle Kochish, filling in for the injured Satterfield, scored on a seven yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 14 with 3:23 left in the third quarter.

The Leopards refused to lose as Hubbard, connected with Mitchell again in the end zone to make the score 35-14. Each team scored once more to make the final score 42-21 in Banks favor. The Rebels travel to Union next week to take on the Panthers.
