Myra George Mason

September 13, 1940 – January 10, 2019

Myra George Mason, age 78, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Blue Ridge, GA. Born on September 13, 1940 in Rome, GA, she was the daughter of the late Carl Everett and Virginia Lee Barnes Thacker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge. She retired from Georgia State Patrol Post#27 after 25 years of service as the Post Secretary. She served 20 years on the Fannin County Board of Equalization, under both Johnny Chastain and Dana Chastain, as Chairperson. She was also preceded in death by three husbands, Larry Adams, Bill George and Oliver Mason; and infant siblings, Carl Thacker, Jr. and Carolyn Thacker.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lori and Carroll Chastain of Ellijay, Burke and Suzanne George of Charlotte, NC, and Brian and Cindy George of Blue Ridge; grandchildren, Lindsay Godfrey of Blue Ridge, Genene (Robert) Churchill of Blue Ridge, Will (Martha) Godfrey of Gadsden, AL, Stephanie (Chris) Keeton of Charlotte, NC, Caroline Godfrey of Atlanta, Jessica (David) Long of Blue Ridge, Erin (Zach) Carver of Morganton, and Rachael George of Charlotte, NC; and great-grandchildren, Michael Lickey, Mason Godfrey, Sylas Churchill, Hudson Long, and Brant Carver; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Linda Thacker of Lindale, GA and Richard and Sherry Thacker of Griffin, GA also survive.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. from First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge with Dr. Tom Jordan and Rev. Bob Richardson officiating. Music was provided by Debbie Jones. Interment followed in the Chastain Memorial Park. Ronald West, Gene Cochran, Larry Williams, Tim Lowe, Mack Mason, and Ernie McArthur served as pallbearers.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.
